Situated in the village square in the centre of historic Cartmel, Ford House is within easy walking distance of everything Cartmel has to offer

Ford House is perfect for family gatherings, wedding parties and celebrations and walking parties. Being located just 150 yards from Cartmel Racecourse, it is also perfect for racegoers.

Cartmel village shop, home to the world famous sticky toffee pudding, is just across the square. It also offers a range of other delights with a great deli counter, local cheeses, wines and beers.

Around the corner is Unsworth’s Yard where you will find Unsworth’s Brewery, Cartmel Cheeses and Cartmel Drink Shop, which has a fabulous range of wines and speciality gins as well as Oscar’s bistro.

Food lovers are spoilt for choice with Simon Rogan’s L’Enclume restaurant with its three Michelin stars just 200 yards away. His one Michelin star bistro, Rogan & Co, is even closer! The 500 year-old Cavendish Arms serves great locally sourced food as well as fine ales.  The Kings Arms and Royal Oak pubs are on the doorstep and the Pig & Whistle a short stroll away. Heft, Kevin Tickle’s one Michelin star restaurant is just three miles away at High Newton.

Grange over Sands is only five minutes drive away and has a supermarket and is home of specialist Higginsons butchers and two excellent bakeries. Grange-over-Sands also offers two golf courses; a 9 hole and an 18 hole, which both welcome visitors.

Nearby there is Holker Hall and Gardens which is home to Lord and Lady Cavendish – a stately home worth a visit. Haverthwaite Railway, Levens Hall, Lake Windermere and Coniston Water are all close by.

Lake Windermere is five miles away, giving access to the high fells. The Lake District National Park is one of the most beautiful areas of England. There are many National Cycle Network routes and road cyclists and mountain bikers are spoilt for choice.

There are walks for every ability from ambles around the lakes to high ridge walks and scrambling. There are numerous trails in the local woods and the surrounding fells which command magnificent views either of the Lake District hills or the sands reaching out across Morecambe Bay.

There are many areas looked after by the National Trust. The Lakes are home to Beatrix Potter and there are gardens, castles, houses, waterfalls and many places to visit.

A 4 night stay can be booked starting on a Monday, a 3 or 7 night stay can be booked starting on a Friday.
